Baby Shower Donations to Lydia House

To help celebrate the upcoming arrival of the Omaha Chapter Treasurer’s baby, the chapter donated baby supplies to the Lydia House through Open Door Mission.

April Day Meeting Outing to the Lewis & Clark Historical Marker

A portion of wonderful Omaha Chapter members and some another member from a nearby chapter joined as well to hear a staff from the National Park Service in Nebraska speak about what life was like on the Lewis and Clark trail.

George Washington Tea

The Omaha Chapter hosted our annual George Washington Tea for our February Meeting and had Bethlehem House speaker, T.J. Ernst, come and let the chapter know more about the program and how we as a chapter can help their mission. The Omaha Chapter ended up donating $300.00 to Bethlehem House from the 2% fund.

Wreaths Across America

The Omaha Chapter Daughters participated in Wreaths Across America when donated wreaths get laid on the gravestones of our National Cemetery in December.

Filling Stockings for Fisher House

Our chapter members here have filled 32 stockings with generous donations of snacks and treats for those who live at the Fisher House and were delivered on the 29th of December.

Operation Christmas Ornaments Donation

The Omaha Chapter November Evening Meeting was spent making 50 ornaments for the survivors of the Kentucky tornado. Well done ladies on some beautiful ornaments sent to Operation Christmas Ornaments!

Sweatshirts Donated to the VA Stand Down

Here are a few of the Omaha Chapter members handing out sweatshirts to homeless veterans. We had 130 sweatshirts to hand out in various sizes to meet the needs of any veteran.

Writing Cards to Service Members

During the Omaha Chapter evening meeting we wrote cards to service members after eating pizza. The Omaha Chapter signed 119 cards and are well on our way to 250 cards.

Day of Service at Prospect Hill Cemetery

Here our Omaha Chapter members celebrated the NSDAR Day of Service by cleaning headstones in one of Omaha’s oldest cemeteries.

Celebrating Constitution Week

The Omaha Chapter supports Constitution Week, observed annually September 17-23, by creating bulletin boards at local libraries, visiting schools, and distributing copies of the U.S. Constitution and other patriotic materials for the education of our citizens.

Nebraska Humane Society Donation

The Omaha Chapter collected 94 toys for the cats and dogs at the Nebraska Humane Society at the September meeting. On Friday the 23rd of 2022 our Chapter Regent, Glenda Irish, had the privilege of delivering them with Kelly Wolterman and Mary Hoogner who is also a volunteer at the Humane Society.

POW-MIA Recognition Day

A few members of the Omaha Chapter of the NSDAR at the POW-MIA Recognition Day on September 17, 2021. Members of the Omaha Chapter support community wide observances of National holidays and other events, such as the wreath laying ceremony at the National POW-MIA Recognition Day at Omaha’s Memorial Park.

Book Donation to Sandoz Elementary School

Sue St. Amant (center) with her great niece and Librarian at Sandoz Elementary School, where her niece is a student.  Sue learned that the librarians at the school were using their own money to purchase books for some of the less fortunate students at the school when the Scholastic Book Fairs were held.  Sue asked if we could donate some of our “two percent” money, that is, money that we withdraw every year from our investment account for charitable donations– two percent of the principal– for the use of the Sandoz librarians to purchase books.  Along with individual donations from our chapter members we gave a total of $700 to the school for use in the Scholastic Book Fair this year.  Every child who couldn’t afford to purchase a book received one, and there was enough money left over to purchase keyboards to be used in the school’s literacy program!

The American History Teacher of the Year Award

The Omaha Chapter presented their American History Teacher of the Year Award to Mr. Cory Vasek of Mary Our Queen School. Mr. Vasek received a certificate and a $50 Amazon gift card. He is also competing in the State-level American History Teacher of the Year contest.

Donations to the VA

On September 14, 2021, our chapter’s first in-person meeting for 18 months (due to COVID-19), we gathered an estimated $950 in baby gear (clothing and blankets). To say, “We are excited to be back together again” is an understatement! Thank you to the generosity of our Omaha chapter members!
