Welcome!

May 13, 2020 · by Omaha DAR Admin

A Greeting and Introduction from our Chapter Regent,

Natalie Haughawout:

IMG_3166 I am a Texas Native who has loved spending the last 20 years in the Midwest. My husband and I live in Elkhorn and we have 4 kids, only one at home currently.

I have a great love for family history. Besides being an active member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, I am a member of several other lineage societies as well as family group societies.
When I’m not working on family history projects, I love to be in the outdoors, bird watching, pickleball, tennis and traveling.

I have chosen a stalk of wheat as the symbol for my term as the Omaha Chapter Regent.

Wheat holds symbolic significance from ancient times to our own culture. It represents sustenance, hard work, religion, renewal, and community for the Native Americans to the early Pioneer Settlers to our current day in the Omaha area.

One grain of wheat doesn’t seem like much. But when you combine it with others, you obtain bread that feeds many. This shows that when individuals come together, they can achieve more. Just like many grains create food, when united, people have a stronger impact.

This is my hope for the members of our Omaha Chapter; unity, hard work, sacrifice and community.
I’m excited to serve with our chapter.

– Natalie Haughawout, Omaha Chapter Regent of the NSDAR

Promoting Patriotism

January 5, 2017 · by Omaha DAR Admin

“Patriotism is not a short frenzied burst of emotion, but the long and steady dedication of a lifetime.”   [Thomas Jefferson]

One of the pillars of the DAR is the promotion of patriotism. A particular delight of the Omaha Chapter has been to attend the monthly naturalization ceremonies to welcome new citizens. After the oath of citizenship has been administered, a Daughter presents the new citizen with an American flag and other information in commemoration of this eventful day

Omaha Daughters are reminded of the founding principles of the United States of America and the great privilege of citizenship at each meeting as they recite the Pledge of Allegiance, Preamble to the Constitution, and raise their voices to the national anthem. Monthly meetings also include brief, informational reports on areas of national interest.

Honoring our Military

January 5, 2017 · by Omaha DAR Admin

Just as the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence pledged their “lives, fortunes and sacred honor” for the cause of liberty, today’s armed forces have dedicated themselves to protecting the freedom that was purchased at great cost by our ancestors. In appreciation for their service, the Omaha Chapter NSDAR is committed to supporting active military and their families as well as local veterans.

Each year, Omaha Daughters…

  • Contribute numerous volunteer hours to serving veterans at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home in Bellevue and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Omaha.
  • Award an ROTC Medal and scholarship to a deserving student.
  • Collect layettes for local military moms to help them welcome their new babies.
  • Send holiday greetings and notes of appreciation to military serving overseas.
  • Collect and categorize coupons to support military families.
  • Attend commemorative events and decorate the graves of fallen warriors.

In addition to chapter activities, Omaha Daughters serve in countless ways individually to demonstrate their gratitude for the sacrifice of our troops in the name of freedom.
